Privacy policy

Pairadactyl is a free word game made by @linguinelabs. It keeps as little about you as it can. There are no ads, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
If you just play
- Your browser makes up a random id and keeps it, along with your board, streak and settings, in its own storage on your device.
- When you finish a puzzle, the server stores your chain, how many words it took and how long you took, under that random id. This is what fills the histogram and the leaderboard, where you appear as “Anonymous”.
- If you try a pairing the game doesn't know, the two words are counted so they can be reviewed and added. They aren't linked to you.
If you sign in
- Signing in with Google or X is optional. The only thing kept from them is the id they use for your account, so the game can recognise you next time. The game doesn't read or store your email, name, profile, contacts or posts, and it can't post or act on your behalf. X's sign-in screen mentions viewing posts because X requires that permission just to confirm who you are; the game never uses it.
- You pick a username. Your username, results, times and solutions are shown publicly on leaderboards.
- Results from the browser you sign in on are moved to your account.
Cookies and storage
Signing in sets one cookie that keeps you signed in for up to a year, and a short-lived one while the sign-in is in progress. Your browser's storage holds your boards, streak, random id and which sign-in you used last. None of it is used for advertising or to follow you around the web.
Hosting
The site and its database run on Cloudflare. Like any host, Cloudflare handles your IP address to deliver the site and to limit abuse, and may provide aggregate visitor counts that don't use cookies. When you sign in, Google or X handle that step under their own privacy policies.
Deleting your data
Signing out, or clearing this site's data in your browser, removes what's kept on your device. To change your username use the account button. To have your account and results deleted, message @linguinelabs on X and it will be done.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it.
